5 of my daily habits
#1: Sing
A huge body of evidence—and my own experience—has shown that music can powerfully impact mood in a relatively short period of time. I’ve created a Spotify playlist called “Daily song” and I make sure to listen to this simple songs every day, and sometimes more than once a day! My current song is super simple, the lyrics are “I have everything I need, I am everything I want to be.” It’s so powerful.
#2: Gratitude
We all have so much to be grateful for, everyday I make a habit of writing down at least 1 thing I’m grateful for in my life. I have a beautiful loving husband whom I adore, I have two gorgeous children, I have a roof over my bed and food on the table. I’m grateful I have the space too grow 50% of the food we consume. What are you grateful for in your life?
#3: Dance
Ok, dance may not be your “thing.” And many people feel self-conscious about it. But hey, if you’re stuck inside and no one is watching, what do you have to lose? I’ve added a daily dance to my daily songs, one to sing one to move too. I close my eyes and let my emotion flow through me.
#4: Go outside
Simply being outside can reduce cortisol levels and shift our mood. This is especially true if we’re in the sun. I’ve been spending a lot of time on the hiking. But even sitting outside in the backyard or on a balcony for 15–20 minutes can make a big difference to your mood. I like to take my laptop out under my deck and soak up the sun while I write treatment plans and do all the background mundane business running things.
#5: Play with your kids or pets
This won’t work for everyone, but for those of you with pets and kids at home, taking a short break to play with them can quickly shift your mood. And it’s great for your kids and pets for the same reason!
One more tip: when we’re stuck in a rut or a bad mood, it’s easy to forget what to do to get out of it. You might want to print out this email or just write these ideas, along with any others that work for you, on a sticky note and put it on your fridge or computer as a reminder.
