Contraception

I always get asked for my preferences on contraception.

These are absolutely my picks in order of preference.

  1. Condom

  2. Cycle tracking

  3. Copper IUD

  4. Mirena

We want anything NON-hormonal! Anything that doesn't mess with your hormonal cycling. We need to allow our body to do it's thing naturally. And if your man say's he doesn't like condoms, he needs to be educated on what the pill does. He wouldn't be putting that shit in his own body, trust me.

Not all condoms are made the same. I love skyn and Johnny. Skyn easy to find in the supermarket, while Johnny have a fun subscription plan. Both brands are gentle in the vaginal microbiome. Yes, the vagina has her very own bacteria that can be upset easily by fragrance, toxic lubrication and spermicides from some condoms. This can leave the vagina feeling irritated, red and itchy. To reduce the risks stick to vegan and casein free condom like Johnny and Skyn.

The down sides of cycle tracking you cannot track your cycle properly if it is irregular, and I would never use the cycle tracking & no barrier method if you are not in a long-term relationship as it will not protect you from STD's. If your cycle is irregular it's time to book in for my hormone balancing program. Irregular periods are no good!

The down side of Copper IUD, copper IUD is linked to heavier periods, and increase in anxiety in some women - so you have to weigh up whether this is something you want to try or not. This is due to Copper levels building in the body which reduces Zinc stores this isn't good long term and may require a copper detox.

Mirena is becoming a popular choice, particularly for those that have children already. It's a better option than pills because the hormones are released close to the ovaries. While it's ok, it's low on my list. It causes weight gain in most women around 10-15kg and messes with mood. It has been known to cause flooding in some women.
